Combordle

Quick Start:

You are trying to guess a secret word. To guess, write a number (how long you think the first word is), then write in two words. Press Enter to guess. The two words must have a combined length of 10 letters long. Each letter will be colored Green (right letter, right spot), Yellow (Right letter, wrong spot), or Uncolored (Not in the word). To win, you must guess the secret word in 10 or less guesses.

About Combordle:

In this Wordle-like, the mystery word is a two words combined together. The total length of the word is 10 letters long, but the two words individually can be anywhere from 2-8 letters long.

This game has No Mouse Support. To navigate the main menu, use the arrow keys and press Enter. Play Game, How To, and Quit are self explanatory options. 

When you enter the History menu option, it will show a bar graph of all of your previous games and how many guesses you take on average, as well as the total number of times you have guessed the word in that many number of guesses.

How To Play:

Your goal is to guess the secret word. Once you correctly guess it, you win the game. The way you format your guess is important. You may guess by typing in any character. To delete a character use Backspace.

To begin your guess, Type in a number. This number is your guess of how long you think the first word is. After that, you can Type in a word. As you start to type in a word, you will be Shown all allowed words. Only allowed words will be allowed as valid guesses (Note: Allowed words are based on the list of allowed scrabble words). After you guess your first word, add a space and Guess the second word. Keep in mind that the total length of both words combined together will be exactly 10 letters long. Once you are confident in your guess, Press Enter to submit your guess. If there is something wrong with your guess, a text box on the bottom will let you know.

Every letter in the guess you submit will be colored as the following:

• Green: The letter is in the word and is in the correct spot
• Yellow: The letter is in the word, but is not in the right spot
• Uncolored: The letter is not in the word at all

Use these clues to help you narrow down what the word can be. If you are able to Guess the Secret Word in 10 or Less Guesses, you win.

Strategies:

• Try to avoid guessing the same letter several times in your first guess
• Try to avoid using uncommon letters such as Q, V, Y, and Z in your first guess
• It is helpful to guess two 5-letter words with your first guess or two since it is much easier to come up with them than much longer or shorter words
• USE THE WORD FINDER! It is build into the game, and is very helpful for finding a lot of the longer and shorter words. Experiment with it since there are a lot of very uncommon 2- and 8-letter words (such as Qi and Zabaione)
• You are almost guaranteed to have at least one vowel in the secret word
• You will often have at least one repeated letter in your secret word, but not always.
